At Umami Seed Co., every release starts with one standard: Flavor > Everything. Purple Ink was built through a coordinated, real-world hunt across multiple environments, growers, and countries, all focused on one goal: identifying a cultivar that delivers elite terpene expression, visual impact, and resin performance. This is craft genetics without borders.

The Purple Ink Global Collaboration

To push this project further, we partnered with respected growers and educators across North and South America for a live, documented seed hunt. In Canada, the project was run by Basement Grow Show. In the United States, the hunt was led by Highigan. In Colombia, Dakota from Homegrown TV ran selections in a completely different climate and production environment. Each grower ran Purple Ink in their own style and conditions while documenting the full process from seed to harvest and sharing the results publicly. This gave us something far more valuable than a single-location test. We were able to see how Purple Ink performed across different climates, growing methods, and experience levels. The results showed consistent early purple coloration, strong vertical stacking, heavy frost and resin coverage, and a distinct grape-forward terpene profile. Purple Ink proved stable, expressive, and reliable across environments.

Terp Team #6

Behind every Umami release is Terp Team 6, our elite global tester network. This group of experienced growers runs early selections under a wide range of conditions and provides detailed feedback on terpene intensity, resin production, extraction potential, plant structure, environmental stability, and overall cultivar value. We are actively expanding Terp Team 6 worldwide to build a network of serious growers who help pressure-test new lines before release. The best genetics are not created in a single facility. They are proven across environments and refined through real-world performance.

The Cultivar

Purple Ink lives up to its name early and finishes loud. Plants show medium stretch during early flower with strong vertical stacking and dense spear-shaped buds. Color development begins early, with deep purple expression well before harvest. Resin production is heavy, and select phenotypes produce material suitable for purple hash.

Flavor Profile

Purple Ink was selected for terpene expression first. The profile is grape-forward with a sweet, fizzy candy character and a mouth-coating sugar finish. This is a cultivar built for growers focused on flavor-driven markets and distinctive aromatic profiles.
